Seyed Hadi Seyed Sadjadi - StereoType

Stereo Type. the most important reason of happening of stereo type is the mind.
the mind inflicted by something else that we assume that thing has power to affect on our mind which is up to our ways of thinking that we believe someone or something somehow effect on our mind and impress it`s opinion/idea to us.
the problem of accruing stereo type is the mind of  affected mind whose is exaggerated but it could be true, because I personally believe when there is an stuff, others may talk and describe about that.
why the stereo types happens is related to our behavior. the stereo type of Arab guys are having several wives as the lecturer mentioned during the class. why she said that? absolutely I guess, she observe something about this subject matter and confront her knowledge and observations in contrary to gather a general idea and stereo type for Arab guys.
most of the people talks about what they saw and heard and detail their information and also make a mixture of their knowledge and exaggerate to provide a type to call something and usually ridiculously, feel they are superior than the other and hide their weakness.

Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani - Stereotypes

Stereotypes:
Stereotypes can be either positive or negative, but they are all unfair and misleading. In general, stereotypes reduce individuals to a rigid, inflexible image; they do not account for the fact that human beings are complex and multidimensional, with unique attributes. Stereotypes suggest that people or groups of people are the same, when, in fact, they are quite different. Stereotypes about human beings tend to dehumanize people, placing all members of a group into one, simple category.

Although generalizations, the basis for stereotyping, represent a natural part of the learning process, when they are directed at human beings, they can be dangerous and harmful. When we stereotype people, we prejudge them; we assume that all people in a group have the same traits. This form of blind categorization leads to false assumptions about people and causes misunderstandings, hostility, abusive behaviours, conflicts, discrimination, and prejudice. For example, if we are walking through a park late at night and encounter three senior citizens wearing fur coats and walking with canes, we may not feel as threatened as if we were met by three high school-aged boys wearing leather jackets. Why is this so? We have made a generalization in each case. These generalizations have their roots in experiences we have had ourselves, read about in books and magazines, seen in movies or television, or have had related to us by friends and family. By stereotyping, we assume that a person or group has certain characteristics. Quite often, we have stereotypes about persons who are members of groups with which we have not had firsthand contact or fear.

One of the biggest issues that comes to mind after watching the film about the presentation of Arabs in culture as evil in “Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People” is the way the classification by the film’s narrator Dr. Shaheen of Arabs in Hollywood films as “subhuman” and “stock villains” is being played out in real-life in politics and foreign as well as home politics. Far from being senseless comic relief figures as sometimes represented in Hollywood films, the damaging images of the Arab as fearless terrorists and villains willing to take their own lives and the lives of others is actually being played off of by America’s leaders as they make certain to use words in speeches like “the axis of evil.” The images represented in films depicting Arabs or Middle Easterners, even for those made for young children such as Aladdin which, as the narrator of the film “Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People”, discusses utilizes every possible stereotype of Arabs are indoctrinating, however unwittingly, even young Western children to the negative images of Arabs as one-dimensional caricatures who are either completely violent, evil, or bumbling and backwards.

This notion of the negative stereotypes of Arabs as revealed in the film “Reel Bad Arabs” is even further contributing to the problem in Western society and the human condition more generally to make assumptions, even if it is because of a lack of thought to the impacts of what is being seen on the silver screen, because it makes us open to believing great unjust things about an entire group or culture. The only way to stop this cycle of negative stereotyping that is allowing those in power to play off of these images of Arabs to create more fear is to raise awareness about these representations and eventually, with enough dissent, producers and other creative persons behind Hollywood films will see that the stereotypes they are presenting are completely wrong and worse, quite harmful and limiting.

Minoo Mafi - My personal experiences

My personal experiences and research about media stereotypes
Nowadays Media has been became much more effective over population and, obviously it can be recognized the role of them to discuss or doing any action of strong country such as The USA, Europe, around the world. Although it has not just been limited to above said country and is done in any other country that has a perfect equipment to make programs to effect its population very well. I would like to consider some Stereotypes which has been made during at war in Iran and how were been success to reach a targets indeed.

There are many faces of using media to convince common to keep on war with Iraq and two faces are far cry from others. I would like to look at to them in fact.

One important point to consider was the main problem between Fars and Arab that media could have made many movies to exaggerate of it. Making some serials and movies such as SARBEDARAN, SAFEER, and so on could change attitude of people against of Arab race. It came back of historic clash between Iranian and Arabian that still is used as key to have sympathy with Iranian who was abused too many years ago. It would have been successful to provoke common to took part at war particularly the teenagers who were sensitive obviously. While it was being watched how many Iranian was been killed those days, surly young boys were believed going war to get revenged is a must. However the of either TV or newspaper was been parallel and they could cover each other.

Other important point is passing way of freedom GHODS across the KARBALA. It is a fact that Iranian loves IMAM Hussein who was killed several decades ago victimized. Therefore Iranian are passion about him so they have a great ceremony for him some days annually .During these days TV, newspaper just focus to this historic event and that time named SADDAM as YAZID who Hussein was killed by him. This imagination was made excellent mutative to be attracted young man.

In conclusion I have believed that we should incline our knowledge to be protected against stereotype affection. So nowadays media looking for new avenues to be fascinated for population and under this shadow can be attractive and more to be influence on common. Media is used as a gun by government indeed.

Gender Stereotype: Men In The Media

Boys and young men learn early on that bieng a so-called "Real man"
means you have to take on this tough guy, in other words you have
to show the world only a certain parts of yourself that the dominant
culture has defined it as manly, we all can find out what those qualities
are by just listen to young men themselves "Real man is physical,
strong, independent, helpful, powerful, in-control, respected"
but in justice, most young men know what our culture expects about
so-called a real man, they also know very well what you get called
if you don't measure up. To be real man is to be tough, strong,
independent, and respected, meaning is to fit all that into a
narrow box that defines manhood, the terms that are the opposite
of that is Wuss, whimp, fag, and sissy are insults that are used
to keep boys boxed in, so if it's a boy it's pretty clear there's
a lot of pressure on them to conform, to put the act, to be just
one of the guys.
So the next question is, where did the boys and young men learn this?
Obviously they learn it in many diffrent places but one of the
most important places they learn it is the powerful and pervasive
media system, which provides a steady stream of images that define
manhood as connected with dominance, power and control, this is true
across all racial and ethnic groups, but it's even more pronounced
for men of colour, because there's a diversity of images of them
to begin with in media culture, for example, latino men are almost,
always present either as boxers, criminals or a tough guy in a bar,
and an asian men disproportionately portrayed as martial artists were
violent criminals. and as we've seen in the video, all the arab
men present as terrorists or as rich and stupid to know the value
of money.

With transcending race, what the media do is to construct violent
masculinity as a cultural norm, in other words, violence in the
deviation as it is an accepted part of masculinity, the media should start
examining this system and offer the alternatives.

Mohsen Ghafari - A stereotype makes you feel comfortable

A stereotype makes you feel comfortable

01- When does stereotype come from?
02- It starts from me then from them!
03- Every country’s stereotypes
04- Hollywood close your eyes when you’re blind

When does stereotype come from?

The man always is ready to be innocent and throw his faults to others. This is our nature. You want to change yourself and you always looking for someone to make him guilty. And this has been continuing until now since man’s birth. This behavior has been changing its face to rumors and jokes after a long time. You like to make fun of your friend and he’s from another city or country and you just hear this and haven’t seen by yourself before. And this is our usual life for a long time too. We can’t see our problem and always see others. We said African, Arab, American, and Indian. And never say us.

It starts from me then from them!

Even we label our own people and paste on every one of our friend, special name and wrong behavior. Like some stingy, some lazy and so on. Sometimes we haven't seen who those are and how they live and we just hear something from our near friends and people that they are like that. And it is exactly the same from them too. Sometimes, we always do something wrong and don’t know it is wrong and we except everyone to accept our behavior or we think they know that this is right one and we don’t have to change it and we continue our wrong history, behavior and culture! And for a long time, it will our something life to live. So, someone uses this and makes rumor and fun of us and then we complain why they say this or that!

Every country’s story!

It starts from the family, friends, city, and finally our country. When there were lots of wrong behavior and misunderstandings from us from our old grandparents and people in the past and we still follow them blindly and it is still wrong and we expect from others to understand and accept it. So it’s not and will makes us fool and we want to stay fool even we know we have to change it but under our culture with respecting it. The countries from third world are all like that and when it comes to change something they lose themselves and go in a wrong path. And when I don’t have any respect among my friends and people, how can I expect my country and people from other countries to respect me and not to make stereotype and fun of my own culture and history.

Hollywood close your eyes when you’re blind

Everyone loves Hollywood, like fake stories, fake happy family and fake unknown history. American who are new and don’t have any history which is limited to some new technology, want to make other without any history like them, and blinded follower people like us go into their deep whole of lies and fake history. And we think America and especially the dreamland of Hollywood is our future. As I said in my last article, this goes back to power of control and socialized media.

You can’t say you don’t like America, can you?
You can’t say you don’t like Hollywood, can you?
But it’s funny
Can you say I don’t like my country, the unconscious answer is YES!

Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani - Social Media & Impact of Social Media

Name:Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani

Email:fatemeh.jt@gmail.com

Social media are media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. The term refers to the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.

Social media are distinct from industrial or traditional media such as radio, television, newspaper and internet. They are some forms of media through which we get information. Just like other fields, a vast development is seen in media fields also. They have to cover important happenings, in all the fields, around the world. The media covers news of public interest such as political happenings, sports, city news, national news, international news, business, education, entertainment, literature and medical news. They are relatively inexpensive and accessible to enable anyone (even private individuals) to publish or access information, compared to industrial media, which generally require significant resources to publish information.

Positive Effects Of The Media

Social Media Changing How We Receive News and Other Information

Along the decades, there have been many changes as to how we receive our information and how it effects us. News broadcasted through different media helps us know about the day-to-day events in the world. The news men, women and children get through media help them in their daily life a lot.

Social Media Changing Social Interactions

Social networking websites provide tools by which people can communicate, share information, and create new relationships. Communicating through the Internet and social networking websites is quite different than communicating in person.

Global Advertising

There are a lot of methods that advertisers use to expose their products. Not only through the newest source, the internet, but the old school way; billboards, buses magazines, and newspapers. Point being, social media networks will find that users are likely to be comfortable with the advertisements on a site as long as they do not detract from, or outshine, the major content of the site.

We MUST submit this article in our group weblog; if not, we will lose 10% of the total mark! That is just a small sample of how social media effect our life; weather we agree or not!
Wikipedia defines Social Media as below:
“Social media are media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. The term refers to the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.”
Good or bad, the cancer cells of web-communication have spread rapidly in our lives. New demands in our modern world formed an interconnected society, including people of all nations; regardless of their beliefs, cultures and geographical distance. Like all other mass media, people cannot live without social media soon.
In “What is Social Media” e-book (http://www.icrossing.co.uk/fileadmin/uploads/eBooks/What_is_Social_Media_iCrossing_ebook.pdf), social media is divided into these groups:
·         Social networks (e.g. Facebook, Google plus)
·         Blogs (e.g. Blogger, Wordpress)
·         Wikis (e.g. Wikipedia)
·         Podcasts (e.g. Apple iTunes)
·         Forums (e.g. forum.lowyat.net)
·         Content communities (Flickr, Youtube)
·         Micro blogging (Twitter)
Among all different types of social media, social networks play more important role in our routine life, especially in the young generation. Facebook with over 700 million users so far, is the leader of web-based communication networks. The common use of this portal is to be in touch with friends and relatives, but except usual these communications, portals like Facebook, may cause social movement enforcements in the real world. We all know the role of Facebook in the recent worldwide events, such as Egypt revolution or Japan earthquake. In the other hand, mass communication sites like this can easily waste a lot of useful time of people around the world, just for sharing things which are not as important as the time that taking for them!
Other types of Social Media are also important for us. We can have an updated personal diary or a group journal in a weblog form or find any kind of information in Wikipedia (the biggest manmade encyclopedia ever). Majority of big companies have their own forum for their customers to share the ideas and get supported from shared information. The companies can benefit from valuable consumer opinions as well. Informative websites like YouTube also very crucial for us. A wide range of information can easily share and be seen in the infinite space of web and the latest news can broadcast; not in the way that governments do!
Nowadays, social media in any form is like a passport to travel to the new virtual world. You may not like using it, but you definitely lose a wide range of privilege provided specially for you. In my opinion, social media is just like a vehicle. It is not good and not bad. It is what it is. It’s more depends on you how to drive. Remember, Electricity power can lighten your home at nights and warm you up in a cold weather or, it can kill you if you use it in a wrong way!!

The effects of media on society can sense on their daily lives due to of all the privileges it can give such as TV or newspaper. There is much kind of media which provide us to have a platform to voice or watch our opinion on all sorts of social and political indeed. It has come out simple ways of communication and in fact easily accessible means to reach out people on the other side of earth.
So there is some positive effect and of course negative effects and would like to look at either of them.
Positive effects:

One of immense important of it is they enhance the not only general knowledge but also particular knowledge by providing us with information from worldwide. They are including news, telefilm, and documentaries and so on. Obviously it will be increasing social awareness in children.
Newspaper and journals are updating last news and information and can help society to be developed their vocabulary. On the other hand they bring us a wide Varity of news about incidents or events that can be available for us just in minutes after happened. Expert claims that media is responsible for influencing a big part of our daily life. They have cooperated to contact of the different cultures and social values.

Negative effects:

Of course some news can be raised our blood pressmen or make us nervous or impatient. The advertisement also show in TV or newspaper maybe negative impact to socity.our children has been learned violence by watching movies and perhaps follows some heroes to be like them that has made many sad event around the world. They spent much more time with media without benefit and make them lazy indeed. The middle aged person are stuck up with TV serials and wasting either money or time.

To sum up, media has brought the public worldwide closer. We have to take the positive aspect and use it for good aims. The media can help us to pull out its negative effects of the media.

Aldossary Naief - The importance of social media

Why social media is important....?

Social media is about connecting with people. it's about having
conversations online. it's dialogue. Not monologue, it's facebook,
twitter, myspace, blogs and more.

Social media has changed everything. From the way people are
recruited and hired to consumer expectations and customer support.
social media is important to us,to the world,it makes it fast,
easier, and FREE for everyone to create and share content.

Social Media is all the buzz these days, in general, social media
sites allow everyday people like me and anyone else to give a real
time feedback, comment impose, they let everyone share content,
and let our opinion really count. a decade ago, the term "google it"
was merely a thought, now there's over two hundred million searches
everyday, if people want to find any information, they just hit a
few buttons. Most people could do that at home, at work, and even
on the phone, in other words, consumers are as informed as they
wanted to be.

These are the common reasons why social network is important
1- Networking and relationship
2- Resources and information
3- Marketing and business
4- Lasts forever

In the end, Social media is important to us, we all see it as the
big thing in our life, many new users join the social world everyday.
imagine life without the social media, life would be slow, life would
be empty and boring,if the social media doesn't exist, my life would turn
into boredom, miserable life, and i'll be the guy with an empty brain.

I was searching through the internet today and came across an interesting post from Brian Clark, titled
Since When Are Blogs Not Social Media?. Here is a quote from it:
I’ve noticed a strange trend lately.
For some reason, people seem to be equating social media with social networking.
At the same time, they seem to be treating blogging as something other than social media.
I found his post interesting because that trend is something I have been noticing myself. It looks like for many people social media is the collection of social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook and Twitter.
Well, it is much more than that.
Social media are the various forms of user generated content and the collection of websites and applications that enables people to interact and share information online.
Complicated? Well here is a list of things that are part of the social media:
  • online forums (e.g., DigitalPoint)
  • blogs (e.g., WordPress)
  • social networking sites (e.g., Facebook)
  • social bookmarking sites (e.g., Digg)
  • video sharing sites (e.g., YouTube)
  • photo sharing sites (e.g. Flickr)
  • streaming sites (e.g., Ustream)
  • user reviews (e.g., Amazon)
  • crowdsourcing (e.g., Wikipedia)
  • content aggregators (e.g., FriendFeed)
As you can see, social media is much wider than what some people think. It is also much older. We could say that the first Usenet (a form of distributed discussion system) developed in 1980 was already social media.

01- Social media and the history of its usability
02- Government and new power of media
03- Third world and nothing more!
04- Media attack and virus spreader

Social media and the history of its usability

The media has always been under the knife of governmental power for their reason. We can’t say that we have had a very pure media without any purpose. Before the internet, the traditional media like newspaper, television and radio, were always under the control. It depended on power of government or big companies and so on. However, social media has its own benefits and came to be handy for making the progress of continuous lies. For a long time, we have both lies and deception together at home, work office and society. Anything around us is covered by the news which we like to hear about. And this is the purpose of power and control.

Government and new power of media

The most powerful tool for governments is controlling media. It doesn’t matter how smart are you, at last, you’ll get exposed by these kind of media like television, radio and papers. The new kind of media, internet, is a little modern and we just think that we have choice to use any information on the internet. This new tools, is the third arm for powerful men to have more control on people and tell more lies to them for living more. Nowadays, all of us like to listen, see and hear more lies without any exception. Internet opened a new window-shop for any kind of products like women, child abuse, murder, money eaters, and credit cards. If you have money so you have everything, if you don’t you must go somewhere and die! This is the power of internet, nothing more, and nothing less.

Third world and nothing more!

We have social media, so we are happy. We are connected to first world by social communication media type like Facebook, yahoo, Google, twitter. They’ve made these social networks for us to communicate. But what is all of this about? Are we really happy? Spending 80% of our time just using these kinds of media for just communication? Is this really meaning of having happy life and communication? The civilization means you must have Facebook, if you don’t, they look at you and laugh. Yes, this is the control and power. We won’t have any identity without using new social media and communication.

Media attack and virus spreader

Social media is like a soft attack. Don’t be mistaken! It’s neither cold war nor warm war. It’s soft attack. Like deadly poisons. You are addicted to social Medias like Facebook. Without Facebook, you have nothing, and you like to be surrounded by beautiful media like YouTube, music videos, MTV and you love to daydream all the time. So is it real life, is it reality?

Conclusion
Social media is a very big topic for all of us which we can by first asking question, get more answer from. I try not to giving a solution, but asking questions to myself, and try to communicate to my friends in another way and identify ourselves as a student who is learning for the future and going to take this control and power which is media.

The subject,Social Media is a serious subject which we can discover it from multiple side.

First: What are the advantages and disadvantages of social media?
Second: How the social media can be useful ?
Third: what are the concept of social media?
Fourth: why is the social media important to us?
Fifth: when it can be useful?
who will get the benefit and where?

in general The social media can be useful, and even useless. some of the people use the social media/network to connect with other people which is a good side of the coin but in contrast it will be hazardous for them when they spend most of their time in front of the computer and do nothing. there will be some illness for them such as eyes problem, laziness, overweight and ... .
Some of the people or better to say student will use the social media/network to do their assignment and research about that which is perfect but it won`t be a good idea to plagiarism because most of the student will copy the contain of a research, paste in their assignment as they work, that will be be an ashamed.

Another ways of using social media/network is Games and Video Games which in these ages, most of the companies and game developer started to to produce some crucial and aggressive games and some sexual and rudeness games which they just look at their packet to collect money.

Another type of social media is TV and generally visual art such as Theater,Film and ... which are trying to perform and spread their idea. the content of these type of medias will be in conclusion by the auditions.

Some of the advantages mentioned above but the most important of using social media is to say something. for example an infant will show his/her feeling by drawing in a piece of paper. a director show his/her idea by creating a movie and a writer with writing a novel and .... why the people are using social media is about their necessity of telling something or expressing their opinion and how are they using the social media is mentioned which a person will be a director, painter, game developer, theater producer or a writer.

The social media will be useful when the people spend their time to catch something even that kind of social media express in bad manner. we can find the weakness and analyze the problem of that social media to try to make it better with criticize in logical way. of course extravagant in using the social media or something else will be dangerous.

The concept of the social media won`t be square all the time because every person think differently and the result will be different. everyone analyze the problem by their own mind and detail something by their own knowledge, but the whole concept is a useful way of describing a feeling or expressing a problem with social media language. social media would be a language when is using in public because it is trying to connect two thing to each other.

The social media could be important to us because the human is sociable, naturally. they need to spend their leisure/time with other people and have fun and grasp new thing around the world. when a person is alone and is not surrounded by the other will start to share his/her data with someone else which is the first step of socialization and the time of using social media and it may to happen in every point of the world, from east to west and north to south even in extreme  point of the world. actually it is possible to connect the other planet in this giant galaxy which we are living in a smallest part of that to each other just by using and promoting the technology and then social media.

To get and understand the social media, we need to improve the technology first and using the social media next.
