Mostafa Mahmoudi - The internet

Mostafa Mahmoudi

The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks - a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers). It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the Arpa net . The original aim was to create a network that would allow users of a research computer at one university to be able to "talk to" research computers at other universities. A side benefit of ARPANet's design was that, because messages could be routed or rerouted in more than one direction, the network could continue to function even if parts of it were destroyed in the event of a military attack or other disaster.

Today, the Internet is a public, cooperative, and self-sustaining facility accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Physically, the Internet uses a portion of the total resources of the currently existing public telecommunication networks. Technically, what distinguishes the Internet is its use of a set of protocols called TCP

For many Internet users, electronic mail (Email) has practically replaced the Postal Service for short written transactions. Electronic mail is the most widely used application on the Net. You can also carry on live "conversations" with other computer users, using Internet Relay Chat IRC. More recently,Internet telephony hardware and software allows real-time voice conversations. (for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Two recent adaptations of Internet technology, the internet and the extranet, also make use of the TCP/IP protocol.

The most widely used part of the Internet is the word wide web (often abbreviated "WWW" or called "the Web"). Its outstanding feature is hyper text, a method of instant cross-referencing. In most Web sites, certain words or phrases appear in text of a different color than the rest; often this text is also underlined. When you select one of these words or phrases, you will be transferred to the site or page that is relevant to this word or phrase. Sometimes there are buttons, images, or portions of images that are "clickable." If you move the pointer over a spot on a Web site and the pointer changes into a hand, this indicates that you can click and be transferred to another site.

Using the Web, you have access to millions of pages of information. Web browsing is done with a Web browser, the most popular of which are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. The appearance of a particular Web site may vary slightly depending on the browser you use. Also, later versions of a particular browser are able to render more "bells and whistles" such as animation, virtual reality, sound, and music files, than earlier versions.

Internet is a tool, tools for everyone which you can use it for anything, for making money, opening a shop, writing a poem, and selling human's body and so on. In this area, everyone tries to have a benefit of it and the problem starts from this area of beneficial of situation. The companies are the most important parts of internet and the people from anywhere are the most targets for these companies.

It seems that the internet can give you everything and you enjoy it a lot. Every second go for internet and check email, Facebook and websites which are related to social networks. Sometimes you go for news website and check every news or part of them. You don’t care what is going to happen or what is actually happening for you. You melt yourself into internet.

It’s difficult to notice the true or lie into this deep technology. Well, for me, I can’t really make a difference between them. I’m part of it. Part of productivity, part of people who are lost and they think they found their way. Anything can break us, any news can deceive us easily and any angel can use us like a devil. The purity doesn’t have any meaning on the internet. Everything is open and you can’t close anything.

However, we always say that we can’t live without internet; we will be completely disconnected from the rest of the world without internet. But how can we survive from internet when we live and die with it. How can we live the rest of our life with all these lies? Can we?

Nowadays we are spending much more time for surfing on the internet and it can include many articles such as news, Assay, amusement, so on. I would like to be sure about it that I it true or not .Therefor, I get down to talk about it.

In fact I am much more interested in read news and most of the time BBC.I remember when this site spared out an news about finding prehistoric animal in Iran we was to be surprised .So But after 12 hours this news took and we found it was a fake .It was an unbelievable mistake that was made as well as its new can be believed accordingly.

Nevertheless, we are under bombarding of information and any mistake might be made occasionally indeed, although I would rather have not same experience afterward. One important point to consider is that we would discuses about an immense matter base on the daily news such as forecast.

It would have been essential when you were off on your holiday. Either Good news or bad news must be real, however bad news is expectation because we can be damaged and shocked then what reaction will be made. Recently depending news in my country is a must and it appearances we will not give up it. In conclusion condition has been made me to know daily news and to be sure it is real not fake.

What is Internet?

actually the internet is the same as other facilities which has some advantages and also disadvantages.we should choose which of them we need.it is not a good idea to say which part of the using the net is correct and which is not true.

some of the people use the net to make a research and find some information/data to raise their knowledge which is naturally a great idea but the other group use those research of their demon purpose and working as a hacker to get some advantages,So which one is correct?

actually everything in this world and also in this virtual world is up to us to get the things we need.what sort of the things we need to reach?

the most important part of that is the using net for the everyday purposes such as shipping online, connecting with second, educational and ... .during these goals we need to be careful about our circle.everything may be happen such as cheating, misunderstanding, spam and junk emails.

using the internet is the same as a coin which it has to side, good VS bad.

this is our responsibilities to get what is correct and which is wrong even any of them has their own aims.

Believing in the internet

The internet has changed the way i think (for the better), it made my life easier, i can look for an answers in just a seconds, and i can find the latest news by some clicks, i often believe what's on the internet, but that depends on the site, there is two different types of sites, Real sites which is reliable and contain all the correct information, for example, Wikipedia, almost all the information are correct and real, the other type of sites is called fake sites, absolutely opposite of the real sites, incorrect and inaccurate information, i've seen many ads saying "Win a million Dollar in less than a month" or "You're our 999999th visitor! You win $1000", obviously, it's a spam site spreading rumors and lies, i don't believe in all these stuff, but talking about the real sites, yes i do believe in this part of the internet, it gives me all the clues I'll need, and all the things i want to know.

e.g. ads leads you to a fake site

Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani - Bloggers And Journalists

Bloggers And Journalists

Name: Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani

A lot of people have been trying to figure out the difference between bloggers and journalist. There seems to be a feeling among some that bloggers are less important than journalist. Others feel journalists are behind the times…

Truth be told, the argument comparing bloggers and journalist isn’t even one we should be having. They are extremely different from each other in certain aspects, but extremely similar in others.
However, in the spirit of the argument, I think it prudent that we attempt to define and separate bloggers and journalists…

Defining a Blogger

In its most simple forms, the definition of a blogger must be someone that writes a blog. But that’s not really enough for us to continue. So how can we extrapolate that? We need to identify what a blog is and make some assumptions and generalities.

A blogger is someone that writes a blog. What’s a blog? It’s an online journal that a writer can use to share his ideas and thoughts. Therefore, a blogger is someone that writes his ideas and thoughts online.

Defining a Journalist

If we began defining a blogger as someone that writes a blog, then we can state that a journalist is someone that writes for a magazine or newspaper. “someone that keeps a journal”. This idea creates a huge overlap between the idea of a blogger and journalist, because of the fact that a blog was defined as a “online personal journal”.

One part of the definition stuck out to me; the fact that a journalist “aims for a mass audience”. At first I thought that this part of the definition might help make a clear distinction between the two, but it’s not the case.

As a regard of growing up technology it can be seen the media has not been exceptional and it has recently been changed particularly by bloggers. Obviously blogging is known as an avenue that we are able to exchange our suggestions or news indeed. Therefore it has being anticipated that journalists are coming into bloggers world as fast as ever. Blogger is general name of who is writing on the internet whatever is news or other subjects include of opinion, suggestion, and so on. Nevertheless it has been believed that blogging has been legitimated to journalist world. Although blogger world is comprehensive so that anybody manage to write everything and it can be dangerous for journalist.

Blogging has been able influence to population in order to most people has been accessed to it much more easier as far as ever .Surfing on the internet is to be a daily habit and, perhaps an addiction indeed. Reading a blog is not only much simpler but also funny sometimes and this is a reason of development of journalist in blogging.

Despite of believing that they are different and any journalists are not a blogger but some blogger can be offered remarkable ability on the journalist world and it must be considered about that. Eventually it should be acknowledged that a blogging is a tool for any journalist who is interested in.

To sum up the differences between either of them is not deep and it might look at as a two avenues that are parallel and mutual.

01- Is there anything left to say?
02- Who is the blogger?
03- Who is the journalist?
04- Can we put both sides in the same side?

Is there anything left to say?

Nowadays, we are force to see and read lots of news from bad to good ones and it’s hard to believe all of them, sometimes none of them. Something is going on! Everyone interprets the news by his own language and situation. And news can have different affection on the audiences or readers. Usually, the bad news is like movies on television in a very funny and sad way. When I hear that Amy Winehouse died because of drug! I don’t really know how should react by hearing this news and it’s very odd and funny. Back to old days, news was very important and could change the people’s life completely. But now, I don’t have any idea at all.

Who is the Blogger?

The blogger is someone who is free whom can write anything about anything. It’s that simple without any limitation. They usually write about any topic. It depends on their interests. Topic is like movie, critic, politic, lifestyle, and sport and so on. They can write anywhere and anytime. They can include their opinion and there is no editor to sensor their articles or posts. When the idea “blog” came everyone was excited because they felt power to write down their own opinion about their thinking and idea. The day, when you don’t have too much connection to others and the internet was so limited, you could just read news and discuss with others with newspapers, group mails, and television. And it wasn’t too satisfaction. But after a while, by coming blog tool in the hand of people to help them express themselves and talk and share their thought with everyone even the people from too far away from them. Isn’t it great? And it goes further and further and now you can make very simple free blog for yourselves and just write down. Sometimes it causes many problems for you and sometimes it makes you famous and money.

Who is the journalist?

Journalist is a very old career for who like to go around and make some news for their newspaper, company or websites. They can write down any news then collect them and send them to editor for print. But the big problem is you are so limited and all the times your news and articles are under the knife of censorship by editor, company and government. You can put any news or opinion on newspaper or radio or television. And if you don’t agree with this censorship you have to find another source to make money for yourself. However, journalism is not as simple and easy as blogging. They interfere with people and accidents. They sometimes must go inside the fire and capture the fire. They lost their life just for their belief and job. Journalism is a very pure job if they reflect the reality. We, as a normal people with normal job, usually don’t have news from other countries or people all around the world. The journalists are the only ones who bring news for us and shine the light for our blind eyes. My favorite job in journalism industry is photo journalism because they don’t talk and they just capture the moment and speak with their photos. And most of them times, the journalist are so defenseless and no one protect them from dangerous moments, war, and accidents.

Can we put both sides in the same side?

The good news is the journalism and blogging are a match couples these days. Usually, journalists have their own blog; another word is who doesn’t have blog? Everyone knows how to make blog and just write any news, opinions and thought. Journalists are really alike and they want to express their every moment of memory and save them somewhere which are belong to them. By this method, they have both side which is their job and opinions. They send their news material to company and write down their article in blog without any censor.

Aldossary Naief Nassar - Journalist vs Blogger

Journalist vs Blogger

Yes, there's a difference, both journalist and bloggers are everyday people who are involved in their communities or are a passionate about an issue, they want to inform others who also share their interests, they could be anyone from a mom writing about her kids sporting events, to a volunteer writing about a food banks needs for donation, to a government employee wanted to inform residents about an upcoming program, or to activist seeking to sway reader's opinion on their way.

Here are the differences

Journalists like professional Journalists do a research and conduct interviews, they write their articles in a third person and leave their opinion out of the articles they produce, they submit their stories to newspapers, news websites, community publication and even broadcast outlets.

Bloggers are more freewheeling , many write an ongoing diary that reflects under everyday life, others are more serious, they use their blogs to get their opinion about a particular issue or topic, well they provide some basic facts regarding an issue, they also include commentary. Blogs typically found on a websites maintained by the individual blogger who also welcomes the opinions of others sites.

Journalists role is to inform accurate and unbiased manner, bloggers tends to provide commentary and invite others to express their opinions as well.

I believe that a blog can work as a journal to explain information or news. The blogger could be a journalist, too.actually I do not see any difference between journalist and blogger.both of them work as a reporter to report some stuff to some audience.for example in some countries which there is censorship in newspaper and journal, most of the news-writers will use blog to discuss about the news and event that happened.

these days the blog and blogging are the new version of the journalism which it try to pass the filtering and governmental censorship with some feature which is not possible to find in journal.

Blogs are really useful these days because they are easy to share with everyone through the internet and have the copyright of your own.

I personally believe that journalism is getting shabby and the blogging would be a great choice to inform the world by just some clicks and also there will be correction on your topics.

the most important advantages of Blogging for reporter of the yellow press or columnist  is that, they can say everything without any problem because of the rules and regulation of the reporting on journals.

the journal is going to have a responsible/journal owner,so it will be like a company and working in a large amount of personnel which it has the publishing on a paper but the Blog might be in an small group of the people that can connect together online and it might have just an admin as a responsible.

finally the the blog would be really compatible to the environment and non recyclable but when a company publish a thousand of newspaper or journal,in fact they are cutting the trees to provide papers to write and print their knowledge and information on it.so in my opinion I prefer to have a blog instead of a journal publication.

Are bloggers journalists? If you’re a blogger and you engage in journalism in your blog, then you’re a journalist. This is how, at least, it is seen with this bill introduced by Representative Rick Boucher .
The Free Flow of Information Act protects journalists from divulging their sources for news stories except in cases where there is imminent harm to national security, imminent death or significant bodily harm involved, a trade secret of significant value in violation of State or Federal law, individually identifiable health information, and in instances where nondisclosure of the information would be contrary to the public interest.
In defining journalism broadly, the bill states: “The act would apply to web logs (‘blogs’) that engage in journalism.” It also clarifies that journalism refers to the tasks of “gathering, preparing, collecting, photographing, recording, writing, editing, reporting, or publishing of news or information that concerns local, national, or international events or other matters of public interest for dissemination to the public.”

Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani - Stereotypes

Fatemeh Jamshidian Tehrani
ID:1102703422
fatemeh.jt@gmail.com
Stereotypes:
Stereotypes can be either positive or negative, but they are all unfair and misleading. In general, stereotypes reduce individuals to a rigid, inflexible image; they do not account for the fact that human beings are complex and multidimensional, with unique attributes. Stereotypes suggest that people or groups of people are the same, when, in fact, they are quite different. Stereotypes about human beings tend to dehumanize people, placing all members of a group into one, simple category.

Although generalizations, the basis for stereotyping, represent a natural part of the learning process, when they are directed at human beings, they can be dangerous and harmful. When we stereotype people, we prejudge them; we assume that all people in a group have the same traits. This form of blind categorization leads to false assumptions about people and causes misunderstandings, hostility, abusive behaviours, conflicts, discrimination, and prejudice. For example, if we are walking through a park late at night and encounter three senior citizens wearing fur coats and walking with canes, we may not feel as threatened as if we were met by three high school-aged boys wearing leather jackets. Why is this so? We have made a generalization in each case. These generalizations have their roots in experiences we have had ourselves, read about in books and magazines, seen in movies or television, or have had related to us by friends and family. By stereotyping, we assume that a person or group has certain characteristics. Quite often, we have stereotypes about persons who are members of groups with which we have not had firsthand contact or fear.

Mostafa Mamoudi - Media Stereotypes

One of the biggest issues that comes to mind after watching the film about the presentation of Arabs in culture as evil in “Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People” is the way the classification by the film’s narrator Dr. Shaheen of Arabs in Hollywood films as “subhuman” and “stock villains” is being played out in real-life in politics and foreign as well as home politics. Far from being senseless comic relief figures as sometimes represented in Hollywood films, the damaging images of the Arab as fearless terrorists and villains willing to take their own lives and the lives of others is actually being played off of by America’s leaders as they make certain to use words in speeches like “the axis of evil.” The images represented in films depicting Arabs or Middle Easterners, even for those made for young children such as Aladdin which, as the narrator of the film “Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People”, discusses utilizes every possible stereotype of Arabs are indoctrinating, however unwittingly, even young Western children to the negative images of Arabs as one-dimensional caricatures who are either completely violent, evil, or bumbling and backwards.

This notion of the negative stereotypes of Arabs as revealed in the film “Reel Bad Arabs” is even further contributing to the problem in Western society and the human condition more generally to make assumptions, even if it is because of a lack of thought to the impacts of what is being seen on the silver screen, because it makes us open to believing great unjust things about an entire group or culture. The only way to stop this cycle of negative stereotyping that is allowing those in power to play off of these images of Arabs to create more fear is to raise awareness about these representations and eventually, with enough dissent, producers and other creative persons behind Hollywood films will see that the stereotypes they are presenting are completely wrong and worse, quite harmful and limiting.

Minoo Mafi - My personal experiences

My personal experiences and research about media stereotypes
Nowadays Media has been became much more effective over population and, obviously it can be recognized the role of them to discuss or doing any action of strong country such as The USA, Europe, around the world. Although it has not just been limited to above said country and is done in any other country that has a perfect equipment to make programs to effect its population very well. I would like to consider some Stereotypes which has been made during at war in Iran and how were been success to reach a targets indeed.

There are many faces of using media to convince common to keep on war with Iraq and two faces are far cry from others. I would like to look at to them in fact.

One important point to consider was the main problem between Fars and Arab that media could have made many movies to exaggerate of it. Making some serials and movies such as SARBEDARAN, SAFEER, and so on could change attitude of people against of Arab race. It came back of historic clash between Iranian and Arabian that still is used as key to have sympathy with Iranian who was abused too many years ago. It would have been successful to provoke common to took part at war particularly the teenagers who were sensitive obviously. While it was being watched how many Iranian was been killed those days, surly young boys were believed going war to get revenged is a must. However the of either TV or newspaper was been parallel and they could cover each other.

Other important point is passing way of freedom GHODS across the KARBALA. It is a fact that Iranian loves IMAM Hussein who was killed several decades ago victimized. Therefore Iranian are passion about him so they have a great ceremony for him some days annually .During these days TV, newspaper just focus to this historic event and that time named SADDAM as YAZID who Hussein was killed by him. This imagination was made excellent mutative to be attracted young man.

In conclusion I have believed that we should incline our knowledge to be protected against stereotype affection. So nowadays media looking for new avenues to be fascinated for population and under this shadow can be attractive and more to be influence on common. Media is used as a gun by government indeed.

Aldossary Naief - Media and gender Stereotyping (masculinity)

Gender Stereotype: Men In The Media

Boys and young men learn early on that bieng a so-called "Real man"
means you have to take on this tough guy, in other words you have
to show the world only a certain parts of yourself that the dominant
culture has defined it as manly, we all can find out what those qualities
are by just listen to young men themselves "Real man is physical,
strong, independent, helpful, powerful, in-control, respected"
but in justice, most young men know what our culture expects about
so-called a real man, they also know very well what you get called
if you don't measure up. To be real man is to be tough, strong,
independent, and respected, meaning is to fit all that into a
narrow box that defines manhood, the terms that are the opposite
of that is Wuss, whimp, fag, and sissy are insults that are used
to keep boys boxed in, so if it's a boy it's pretty clear there's
a lot of pressure on them to conform, to put the act, to be just
one of the guys.
So the next question is, where did the boys and young men learn this?
Obviously they learn it in many diffrent places but one of the
most important places they learn it is the powerful and pervasive
media system, which provides a steady stream of images that define
manhood as connected with dominance, power and control, this is true
across all racial and ethnic groups, but it's even more pronounced
for men of colour, because there's a diversity of images of them
to begin with in media culture, for example, latino men are almost,
always present either as boxers, criminals or a tough guy in a bar,
and an asian men disproportionately portrayed as martial artists were
violent criminals. and as we've seen in the video, all the arab
men present as terrorists or as rich and stupid to know the value
of money.

With transcending race, what the media do is to construct violent
masculinity as a cultural norm, in other words, violence in the
deviation as it is an accepted part of masculinity, the media should start
examining this system and offer the alternatives.

Mohsen Ghafari - A stereotype makes you feel comfortable

A stereotype makes you feel comfortable

Name: Mohsen Ghafari
student ID: 1091108885

01- When does stereotype come from?
02- It starts from me then from them!
03- Every country’s stereotypes
04- Hollywood close your eyes when you’re blind

When does stereotype come from?

The man always is ready to be innocent and throw his faults to others. This is our nature. You want to change yourself and you always looking for someone to make him guilty. And this has been continuing until now since man’s birth. This behavior has been changing its face to rumors and jokes after a long time. You like to make fun of your friend and he’s from another city or country and you just hear this and haven’t seen by yourself before. And this is our usual life for a long time too. We can’t see our problem and always see others. We said African, Arab, American, and Indian. And never say us.

It starts from me then from them!

Even we label our own people and paste on every one of our friend, special name and wrong behavior. Like some stingy, some lazy and so on. Sometimes we haven't seen who those are and how they live and we just hear something from our near friends and people that they are like that. And it is exactly the same from them too. Sometimes, we always do something wrong and don’t know it is wrong and we except everyone to accept our behavior or we think they know that this is right one and we don’t have to change it and we continue our wrong history, behavior and culture! And for a long time, it will our something life to live. So, someone uses this and makes rumor and fun of us and then we complain why they say this or that!

Every country’s story!

It starts from the family, friends, city, and finally our country. When there were lots of wrong behavior and misunderstandings from us from our old grandparents and people in the past and we still follow them blindly and it is still wrong and we expect from others to understand and accept it. So it’s not and will makes us fool and we want to stay fool even we know we have to change it but under our culture with respecting it. The countries from third world are all like that and when it comes to change something they lose themselves and go in a wrong path. And when I don’t have any respect among my friends and people, how can I expect my country and people from other countries to respect me and not to make stereotype and fun of my own culture and history.

Hollywood close your eyes when you’re blind

Everyone loves Hollywood, like fake stories, fake happy family and fake unknown history. American who are new and don’t have any history which is limited to some new technology, want to make other without any history like them, and blinded follower people like us go into their deep whole of lies and fake history. And we think America and especially the dreamland of Hollywood is our future. As I said in my last article, this goes back to power of control and socialized media.

You can’t say you don’t like America, can you?
You can’t say you don’t like Hollywood, can you?
But it’s funny
Can you say I don’t like my country, the unconscious answer is YES!
